Excel V

This LASER treatment safely and effectively treats both the tiny red superficial face and body veins as well as the larger, deeper blue, reticular veins. This treatment is offered for both men and women of all skin types.

Spider veins are dilated blood vessels on the skin's surface. They appear red or blue, and may be connected in web or branched pattern, or short, individual lines. Laser technology offers an effective means of treating spider veins. Laser light is absorbed by the spider veins, causing the vessels to heat and in turn causing the blood in the vessels to collapse.

We use a long pulsed Nd:YAG laser that is an award winner as the best laser for leg veins. It provides continuous contact cooling to enhance your comfort.

This treatment is for one 30-minute session. 2 or 3 treatments, spaced eight weeks apart, may be required for best results.

Clarity 2

Visible leg veins are enlarged superficial veins that are often red, blue, purple or flesh-colored. The veins range from mild spider veins to more pronounced varicose veins. The spider veins on the legs look like treaded fine lines or a spider web, while the varicose veins are larger and bulkier and often protrude through the skin.

What Causes Leg Veins?

Spider veins and varicose veins on legs are primarily caused by venous insufficiency- a condition whereby poor blood flow creates a pooling of blood in the veins. Varicose veins symptoms include aching, throbbing, fatigue and heaviness. With age, the veins lose their elasticity and begin to stretch, while the valves within the veins weaken and allow blood to flow backwards. Additional factors besides aging include heredity, pregnancy, hormonal shifts, weight gain and occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing.

Who Suffers From Visible Leg Veins?

Visible leg veins are a very common skin condition. Varicose veins and spider veins develop more often in women than men and increase in frequency with age. 8% of women and 1% of men aged 20-24 have visible leg veins, compared to 41% of women and 24% of men aged 40-49. . Thus, almost half the women population and a quarter of the population of men suffer from visible leg veins.

Wow does Clarity by Lutronic work?

The proper wavelength is applied, and the light energy is absorbed by the chromophore (in this case hemoglobin) and converted to heat which breaks up coagulated blood. Surrounding tissue remains undamaged. In many cases, numerous sessions are required to maximize results.

FAQs

How does the laser work?

A laser generates an intense beam of light that can selectively target a treatment site. The laser light is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin (bright red blood cells carrying oxygen) and melanin (black or brown pigment found in the skin) causing decomposition or destruction by heat of unwanted cells while leaving healthy cells intact.

What are the benefits of laser surgery?

The benefits of laser treatment over alternative therapies may include improved therapeutic results precisely controlled surgery which limits injury to normal skin, fewer complications and a safe and effective outpatient, same day surgery for vascular and pigmented lesions.

What is a vascular lesion?

A vascular lesion is formed by abnormally large or numerous blood vessels located directly under the surface of the skin. These vessels may be visible through the skin and may result in a red appearance of the skin.

What is a benign pigmented lesion?

Melanin is the dark pigment present in skin and is produced by melanocytes. Benign pigmented lesions occur when an abundance of melanocytes are found in the skin. Lesions may be flat or slightly raised.

What should a patient expect during treatment?

Treatment may vary depending upon patient characteristics and the area being treated. An individual treatment program will be developed by your physician. Treatment sessions typically take 10-15 minutes. Patients are advised to remove make-up in the treatment area and to avoid tanning prior to scheduling a treatment. You will be asked to wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the intense beam of laser light. The doctor will use a pen-like handpiece to direct a beam of laser light to the lesion. Some patients report feeling a slight stinging sensation during treatment so a cooling gel or system may be used to help alleviate any discomfort.

What should a patient expect after treatment?

Some redness may occur in the treatment area immediately following treatment; however, it should subside within several hours. Some swelling may also be experienced and will go away in 1-2 days. Postoperative care is minimal. Your doctor may ask you to use anti-bacterial ointment on the treated area for a short period of time and will suggest that you stay out of the sun during the healing process. Final treatment results should be evident 10-14 days after treatment for vascular lesions and within 2-3 weeks after treatment for benign pigmented lesions. In the meantime, normal activities can be resumed with only a slight redness evident at the treatment area.

How will I know if laser treatment is right for me?

Ask your doctor. After a brief examination, your doctor will determine if laser treatment is appropriate for you.
